As far as my life is concerned, 2009 is the Year of the Athlete. I tried to find out what 2009 was officially the year of but all I could find was Year of the Pickle, Year of the Hacker or Year of the Socceroos.

I am quite the amateur so don't expect to see me fighting Libby or Lance for news headlines. My overall goal is pretty simple - be really fit.

I know you're supposed to quantify and be specific about these sort of goals but I'm fairly certain that in my own mind I'll know when I'm there.

For the sake of being a bit more interesting I guess my stepping stone goals are:

1. Be able to ride with the boys. This is a big motivator for me. I'm sure there are plenty of girls our there that can ride as well as or better than the guys I've been riding with but for now, the boys I ride with (or at least meet for coffee after I finally finish my ride) are my bench mark.

2. Run 10K in under 40 minutes. My previous best when I was sort of running semi regularly was 43 minutes.

3. Do 30 push ups. I struggle to even do a couple at the moment so I figure if I can do 30 proper pushups I must be getting close to being fit.
